Welcome to the memorial page for

Lyman Randall Spear

December 10, 2015

It is with heavy hearts the family of Lyman Randall Spear, announce his sudden passing on Thursday, December 10, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Lepreaux, NB, on June 28, 1933, he was the loving husband to Maxine Faye (Hubley) Spear, and son of the late Randall and Wilhemina (Moody) Spear.

Lyman was a very charitable man, being involved in teaching firearm safety, the Millen Project 2000 to honor WWI and WWII soldiers, coordinator for 10 years of the Remembrance Day Ceremonies at Musquash Fire Station, Chief of the Point Lepreau Warden System Emergency Response, as well as being a valued member of the Boy Scouts.  Lyman was, as they say, a “man of many hats” and the unofficial mayor of Lepreaux.   He graduated from Saint John Vocational School with specialization in cabinet making and cabinetry; he ended up building the pews in the church in Lepreaux by hand.  He was the first emergency ambulance responder in Saint John, a member of the RCMP Auxiliary, a dog trainer and animal lover.  Many will remember him for being the person who was first to bring satellite dishes to the rural communities of New Brunswick.  He was a very hardworking, generous, well respected and easy-going man.  He was an electrician by trade; a Master Electrician, but in 1962, he began a 32 year career with Canada Post, retiring in 1999 with a Silver and a Gold Post Office Award.    Lyman will always be remembered in Canada Post memories for being the first driver to bring about the right hand drive vehicle for deliveries.  He drove an International Scout truck and later Canada Post adopted the right hand drive as standard for their delivery vehicles.  In his later years rather than retiring fully, he owned and operated Lepreaux Satellites.

He was a great husband, father, uncle, brother, friend and an all-around Good Samaritan.  Taken much too soon, Lyman will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife Maxine, Lyman is survived by his sons; David (Frances) Spear and Chris (Jacquie) Spear, daughters; Susan Spear, Bonny (Lou) Daviault, Nicole (Robert) Wiseman, Denise (William) Levy, Michele (Jeremy) Walsh and Daughter-in-law Sandy Spear, brother Leonard (Marilyn Wells) Spear,  14 grandchildren; Jennifer (Andrew) Welton, Jeanette (Dave) Wheaton, Douglas, Trisha (Ken), Nickolas Daviault, Meghan, Alex, Zachary, Ryan, Jonathan, Madeline, Kristin, Mackenzie, Jayda, 4 great grandchildren;  Kole, Kooper, Chase and Jaxson, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins.

Along with his parents, Lyman was predeceased by his first wife Betty Spear, son Bradley Spear, and his brother Breman Spear.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  The Funeral Service will be held from St. Paul’s Anglican Church (4 Church Avenue, Rothesay) on Monday, December 14 at 1pm.

Donations made in memory of Lyman to the St. Paul’s Anglican Church or St. Margaret’s Anglican Church in Lepreau, NB or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
