Hedley George Dyker

With sadness the family announces the passing of Hedley George Dyker, loving husband of 58 years to Catherine (Purtill) Dyker, which occurred peacefully at his residence on Monday December 26, 2011. Born 1924 in Aberdeen, Scotland he was the son of the late Peter and Jessie (Webster) Dyker. He came to Canada in 1926 where he lived in Mount Hebron for a number of years, later moving to Saint John. Hedley worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator/Industrial Mechanic for Irving Paper for 24 years. He loved the outdoors especially hunting and working in the woods. He loved music and belonged to several fiddling groups. In addition to his wife Catherine, he is survived by his children Carl (Cathy) Dyker of Quispamsis, Catherine Denis (special friend Dave) of Saint John, Phyllis (Michel) Matte of Montreal, Dale (Susan) Dyker of Grand Bay-Westfield, Stephen (Gail) Dyker of Saint John, Eleanor (Mike) Brooks of Rothesay, Timothy (Donna) Dyker of Bloomfield, Tommy Dyker of Saint John, Peter (Tracie) Dyker and Shawn (Sarah) Dyker both of Rothesay; 24 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Hedley was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by siblings Margaret, Jessie, Phyllis, Peter, Duff, Rosila and Jeaniebelle.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Tuesday December 27, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday December 28, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 171 Pettingill Road on Thursday December 29, 2011 at 10 a.m. Followed by a reception in the church basement. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the St. Mark’s Building Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice.
