I had the pleasure of meeting Gerald Arthur 30 years ago at STU. We quickly and easily became friends, which is no surprise as Gerald was always so open to friendship with everyone. Over our 3 years together at STU our friendship grew and I met many other great lifelong friends through Gerald.
When I left STU I realized that many of the friends that I made there I would rarely see again as we all went our separate ways, but because of both mine and my wife's connection to Gerald we always stayed in touch.
For the last 20 years or so since Gerald moved here to Moncton our friendship continued to grow. He met childhood friends of mine, watched my children grow and we shared many good times and laughs together.
Really true friends are very hard to come by. It is something that forms over time and experiences together. That is what Gerald was to me - a true friend. It is hard to lose a friend like Gerald. Whenever I think of Gerald I tear up, but the more I think of him, I will smile and probably even laugh. I am going to miss you buddy.

The clock of life is wound but once,
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
At late or early hour.
To lose one’s wealth is sad indeed,
To lose one’s health is more,
To lose one’s soul is such a loss
That no man can restore
The present only is our own,
So live, love, toil with a will,
Place no faith in tomorrow,
For the clock may then be still
• Robert H. Smith
Gold is one of the most expensive commodities on Earth, but nothing is more valuable than time. Time is worth more than its weight in gold and we all have precious memories of the time that we shared with our friend, Gerald Arthur, as he wound his way around the clock of life.
Gerald’s presence held a certain, Je ne sais quoi, for there was something profoundly special about being in his company. As a son, uncle, brother, and friend, Gerald, touched our lives in countless ways.
Gerald was tremendously proud of his Lebanese and Scottish heritage. He had a contagious smile and he could always make us laugh. He was extremely talented and a friend to anyone in need.
Burton Cummings, a basket of chicken wings and anything Filipino are among some of the oddest things that invoke memories of Gerald
Over the summer, Gerald and I attended a Burton Cummings concert together. Gerald could identify the song about to be played as soon as he heard the first note. Any time a ‘Guess Who’ tune comes over the airwaves, thoughts of Gerald are sure to spiral through my mind.
Upon returning to Moncton in the summer, nothing was better than sharing a feed of chicken wings and a cold beer with Gerald. I’ll never be able to bite into a chicken wing without thinking of my old friend.
Gerald was a huge friend to the Filipino community. He coached their volleyball teams, he learned to cook Filipino food and he could even sing the Filipino National Anthem.
While material things provide convenience and comfort, it is the warm meals, the conversations and time spent with family and friends that resonate well beyond the grave with those that we leave behind. Though Gerald has left us far too soon, he has left us with a wealth of memories to cherish as we continue to wind our way around that temperamental clock of life.
So as we reflect on the time we shared with Gerald, it is certain that his laugh, his smile and very presence shall be greatly missed. Though we are filled with sorrow that his life has dwindled beyond the horizon into the realm of the great unknown; we must also be grateful for the time that we were afforded with this most remarkable man. May the peace of the Lord be with you.

Gerald was a gentle man with a Gentle Soul. He Came, He saw, He added value to His name and Humanity for His sacrifice.
A few years ago Gerald drove Cousin Paul and I to Moncton to catch a flight, we laughed all the way, and had a great dinner there. I heard recently that Gerald always smiled and laughed when he heard my name, and would tell the story of me telling him how to make home made Chicken Wing sauce. I am happy I made him smile. What to say at such difficult times for the family and friends of Gerald. Knowing Gerald from school and curling, I don't think I ever saw him have a bad day or not greet you with a friendly smile. The last time I saw Gerald, I had picked him up hitchhiking home from work at the shipyard I do believe. So I dropped him off at his home and I don't think he had changed one bit. Still the happy go lucky guy I remember from school. RIP Gerald, you are cool dude.

I am sorry and very surprised to hear of Gerry's passing. I came to know Gerry about 15 years ago through our mutual friends, Barry Shannon and Dana McDougall. While I certainly didn't get to know Gerry as well as those two, we did on occasion all have a drink and a laugh together and no doubt we are all the poorer for not being afforded the opportunity to laugh with him anymore. That he met his end performing a selfless act of valour is a testament to his generous character which no one can deny and we all should hope to emulate. I know that any condolences I could offer to his family and close friends would be futile, but still, I do offer my best wishes for all who will mourn Gerry's all too premature passing. He will not be forgotten.

My sympathies go out to the entire family. I worked in the RBC investment department an had many occasions to have a chat or share a laugh with Gerald. There was such an inner warmth about him that he shared freely with all. There is not a single instance I can recall of him saying a negative word about anyone. I admired his discretion and dedication to RBC. And, yes, the manner of his passing is symbolic of his life; kind, generous, and selfless. May the knowledge of how much impact his unassuming generous manner had on all those who knew him bring you comfort at this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Kevin Black
