The death of Mr. William Stanley of Beacon St., husband of Mrs. Jean (Walls) Stanley occurred on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Mispec, N.B. a son of the late Charles and Margaret (Steeves) Stanley. Mr. Stanley was a veteran of WW II serving overseas with the army from 1939 to 1945 and was wonded in France. Upon his return he was employed with the D.V.A. Hospital until his retirement. He was a member of the RCL Branch # 53. Bill was active in the War Amps of Canada both at the Provincial and National levels, holding numerous positions throughout the years. In August 2001 Bill was recognized with the Distinguished Service Membership in the War Amps of Canada Award and held the Dominion Representative in the War Amps of Canada in Canada. Bill took a special interest in the C.H.A.M.P.S Program receiving the Honorary Membership in the War Amps of Canada Child Amputee (C.H.A.M.P) Program Award for his dedication. Bill thought a lot of the Park Avenue United Church where he was a member for many years serving in many roles. He loved Horse Racing and was a regular on Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons at the Exhibition Park Raceway, he was also an avid bridge player. Bill was always a gentleman and will be remembered for his generosity and warm smile.

Surviving besides his wife Jean is his sister Ethel Larkin of Saint John along with several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Gordon, Charles, Lawrence (Joe) and Lloyd.



Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral service will be held on Saturday June 29, 2002 from Park Ave. United Church at 11 am followed by interment in Fernhill Cemetery. The family would appreciate donations to the Heart Fund, C.H.A.M.P.S or Diabetes Foundation.
