January 1, 2009

PERRY, P. OSCAR (1926-2009) - The death of P. Oscar Perry of Saint John, husband of E. Doris (Dignam) occurred at the Loch Lomond Villa on January 1, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Howlan, PEI, he was the son of the late Firmin and Mary (Gallant) Perry. After leaving PEI he worked on both the "Princess of Helene" and the "Princess of Acadia" as the beverage manager before leaving to manage the Gladstone Tavern. There he made many friends and had plenty of happy memories leaving only when the property was expropriated by the city. He later retired from the Boson's Chair in 1986.

He will be remembered for many things; but by most it will be his warm smile when he met you, the 'stories' he always told, his appetite for 45's and cribbage, and his prowess with the Gladstone Bowling League. Oscar was also a member of the St. Joachim's Church and the St. Joachim's Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters, Paula Cyr (Roger) of Rothesay, Ellen Perry of Saint John, and Joanne deJong (Al) of Quispamsis; three grandchildren Candice Hanna (Aaron), Scott Reed (Lisa) and Josh deJong; and two great-grandchildren Mackenzie Reed and Sara Hanna; one sister Lynn Gallant of PEI; nieces, nephews, friends and the family pets Maxi and Murphy. Besides his parents Oscar was predeceased by brothers Vincent, Henry, Isadore, and sister Mae Bernard.
