Louisa MacLean

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Louisa MacLean of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB, wife of Murray D. MacLean; who passed away on July 14, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Nijmegen, the Netherlands in March of 1949, she was the daughter of the late P. Frans and Louisa (Verheijen) Cuppens. Louisa’s family was always of foremost importance in her daily life and as well she had a deep pride in her Dutch heritage. Louisa spent her childhood years in the North End of Saint John and after marriage settled in beautiful Grand Bay -Westfield. During those years she volunteered for the Grand Bay Ambulance - Fire Services as telephone dispatch operators and was secretary to the Westfield Home and School Association for several years. She graduated from St. Vincent’s High School and later the Commercial Program at the Saint John Community College. Her working career included St. John Ship Building & Dry Dock Co., Ltd., Metro Construction, Y.M.C.A., Drake Temporary Office Services, The Church of St. John & St. Stephen Inc., Canadian Mental Health Association and most recently in School District 8.  In addition to her husband, Murray, Louisa is survived by her sons Christopher MacLean, Peter MacLean (Eliza Fitzpatrick), one daughter Deanna MacLean-Bourque (Marcel Bourque); five beautiful grandchildren Erik MacLean, Caylee and Zakkery MacLean, Pacey MacLean and Annick Bourque. She was predeceased by a son Michael John MacLean in 1974. Louisa is survived by brothers Lt. Gen. Louis W.F. Cuppens (ret’d) (Pat LaPierre Cuppens) and John Cuppens (Lenore Smith) and a sister Anna Owens (David).  Louisa is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins both of The Netherlands and in Canada, among them a very special cousin, Wim Verheijen.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) from where visitation will be held on Tuesday July 17th and Wednesday July 18th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 19th at St, Matthew’s Catholic Church, Grand Bay-Westfield at 11 a.m, followed by a reception at the Brundage Point River Centre.  A private interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
