Jon, I just found out about your Dad or I would have been at the funeral. He was a wonderful person and I was proud to call him friend. I enjoyed working with him and he will always be fondly remembered by me. Just remember you have your very own special Guarding Angel to watch over you. Please tell your grandmother Shirley how sorry I am to here of your Dad's passing. God Bless ! I only learned today of Laurie's passing. I am truly so sorry. He was a wonderful man and dedicated father. You can take comfort in knowing that he is now "sheltered in the arms of God". My prayers are with you.

I went to Bethany with Laurie years ago. He and I were "neighbours" in the dorm and we had an excellent friendship and enjoyed talking to each other constantly. He had a heart of gold and such a wonderful spirit about him. I know the halls of heaven will now ring out with his friendly voice and he will impact others there with his friendship as he did here. I haven't seen him for years but the impact his friendship had on me leaves me with fondest memories. God be with you during this time but know this, Laurie's faith has now become sight.

My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Laurie was a great guy. Mr Fix-it he was often called by his co-workers as Laurie could fix almost anything with his little tool box he keep locked away. As his former Nurse Manager I often saw the love and attention and the caring attitude he provided to his patients. He was an asset to the nursing profession. He was devoted to you Jon - you were his life. We could tell that by the stories he would tell after you both had spent some time together. He will be greatly missed by his co-workers, his patients and especially his family.

Laurie was one of the good guys. An old school CNO/LPN who had the gift of being a true people person and terrific mentor. Always a big laugh and smile. A big loss to our hospital community.

We were saddened to learn of Laurie's sudden passing. He was part of our church family during the years he lived in Fredericton and we have wonderful memories of him. Our thoughts and prayers are are with you all. Laurie was a special cousin to me and I know he brought special memories to all his family and friends. I came across this poem and would like to share it with you.
To My Dearest Family,
There are some things, I would like to say −
But first of all − I want you to know that I've arrived okay!!
I'm writing this from Heaven where I dwell with God above,
where there are no tears or sadness, just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I’m out of sight −
Remember I am with you every morning, noon and night!
The day I had to leave you − when my life with you was through
God picked me up and hugged me, and said "I welcome you!"
"It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family − they'll be here later on.”
"I need you here so badly − as part of My big plan −
There's so much we have to do, to help out mortal man."
Then God gave me a list of things, He wished for me to do,
and foremost on that list of mine is to watch and care for you.
So I will stay beside you, every day and week and year,
And when you’re sad, I will be standing there to wipe away the tear.
When you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight −
God and I are closest to you, in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth and all those loving years,
because your only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain −
And remember − there would be no flowers without a little rain.
I wish that I could tell you of all that God has planned but if I were
to tell you − you wouldn’t understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is done,

If I can help somebody who is in sorrow or pain, then I can say to God at night −
That my life was worthwhile − knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

Just lend a hand to pick them up and you will smile too.

I'm there walking in your footsteps − only half a step behind.
And when you feel a gentle breeze or the wind upon your face −

Just know that as a family, we have you Aunt Shirley, Randy, Rick and Dale in our thoughts and prayers. Such a sad time, the loss of a son, brother and a Dad. Dear Family and friends ,I wish to express my deepfelt sympathy on the shocking,unexpected ,passing OF "LAURIE".I had first met this amazing man at the REGIONAL HOSPITAL,and what you saw you got,a gentle soul who had so much love for his family ,friends,co-workers,and anyone who crossed his path.I had a quilt rack made by him,he was such a perfectionist,I now have my quilt rack as a forever memory of the great person that made it,my sister also has one.HE loved his craftwork.Too often we underestimate the power of a touch,a smile,a kind word,a listening ear,an honest compliment,or the smallest act of caring,all of which have the potential to turn a life around.Laurie turned a lot of lives around for the better just by his existence in our lives.I have been so blessed to have known such an amazing human being.GONE TOO SOON.....BUT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.Laurie you have earned your much deserved "WINGS"....and now have become an angel,the brighest star in the universe that we can gaze at and smile....because you made such a difference....a real gift to all.From this moment on,LAURIE is kiving in the deepest peace,because the "LORD" himself is carrying him in the hollow of his hand.May GOD BLESS all of you at this most difficult time in your lives.LOVE AND PRAYERS,JANET TRECARTIN,LPN,GEM UNIT.

There are not enough words to express the heartbreak so many feel. We will miss him so dearly. So many will remember Laurie as a person and co-worker who enjoyed being with his son. Sending my sympathic heart to the family and friends of Laurie McDonald. We are all going to miss a great friend, co-worker and family man. Laurie was such a good dad for Jonathan. We all heard his heart as he spoke of the things he and Jon did, whenever he had him on his days off. I admired his love for his son, his friends and family. He spoke of them often. He was a great work buddy, he helped each of us do part of our job. Most certainly a great part of our team. To not see him coming in at work, is going to be a constant reminder of how terribly we will miss his cheerful presence.

So sorry to hear of Laurie's passing ,he was a one of the good guys .He was a neighbour of my Brothers and when we would visit he always went out of his way to talk to us like he knew us forever and made us feel very welcome .He will be sadly missed by so many people.We will miss you Laurie.
