Hilda Isabel Holland

March 6, 1918 ~ October 25, 2009 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Holland, Hilda Isabel - A life well lived.
Hilda, mum, nanny passed peacefully on Sunday 25th October 2009, in her home, surrounded by her loved ones. Hilda has joined her husband Ray. Born in 1918 to Luetta (Pickle) and Burton Leonard in Erb's Cove, Kingston Penninsula, she was a sister to Madeline. Her two sons Doug Holland (Betty), Brian Holland (Josee) live in Saint John and daughter Carol (Jim) in Ottawa. To her grandchildren Sherry and Robbie, Marcie, Jeff and Shelley, and Jennifer, James and Angie, nanny was a constant and guiding light. Great nanny was well loved by six great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life Hilda was active in her community as a volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society. With Ray, she was famous for her pies and lobster rolls at Hilda's Grill and helping disabled children on the school bus. Many will remember Hilda with her grandchildren driving her pony and cart in the Christmas parade or in arenas at hockey games. Hilda was proud to be a Habs fan and "Ford Tuff". She regularly drove her '85 pick-up to Tim Horton's to visit with friends and staff at the McAllister Mall. Mum talked to the animals, especially to her many dogs, all named Duke, and to her favorite horse "Billy". Hilda was a longstanding member of St. Anne's Parish in Glen Falls. The family would especially like to thank the extra-mural nurses Karla, Cathy and Pam for their compassionate care.
