After a brief illness, George D. Smith, husband of the late Pat Smith, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Born April 1, 1921 in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ida (Schurman) Smith. George was a Veteran of WWII serving in Italy, Holland, France and Germany. He worked as a Crane Operator for 35 years for CN Wilson and was an original Seadogs season ticket holder, and Maple Leaf fan. He loved to travel. George is survived by his children George P. (Theresa) Smith and Jeanne Smith, both of Saint John, NB; sisters Mona Harrington of Ottawa, ON, Marjorie Cook of Fredericton, NB, Jean Smith of Montreal, QC and Shirley (Bill) Mitchell of Saint John, NB grandchildren Shaun, Michael, Matthew and Becky; great grandchildren Andrew, Connor and Maya. In addition to his wife and parents, George was also predeceased by his brothers Charles, Ronald and Norwood and sisters Hilda Yorke, Christine Daly, and Josephine Agg. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will also take place Friday at 7 pm. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 9:30 am from the funeral home Chapel followed by a reception. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Donations in George's memory can be made to the charity of the donors’ choice.
