Douglas Allan Lockhart

Surrounded by his loving family, Douglas Allan Lockhart, husband of Helen Elizabeth (Downey) Lockhart, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born August 31, 1944 in Saint John, NB he was the son of the late Percy and Sadie (Fisher) Lockhart. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Walter Lockhart and Russell Lockhart; brothers-in-law Stan Lewis, Beverly Cummings, Walter Kay and Floyd Furlong; sisters-in-law Shirley Lockhart and Esther Lockhart.

Doug is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife of 51 years, Helen. He is also survived by his children Ron Lockhart (Lisa), Don Lockhart (Michelle), Cindy Lockhart (Doug Campbell) and Darren Lockhart (Charlotte); cherished grandchildren Riley, Emily, Sadie Dawn and Leah; brothers Kenny, Ronald, Gordon (Ferne) and David; sisters Gloria Furlong, Rose Lewis, Marjorie Cummings, Audrey Kay and Mary Breau; sister-in-law Joy Lockhart; many nieces and nephews.

Doug cherished his free time spent with his grandchildren who gave him the strength to live every day. When not spending his free time with his grandchildren, he would be plotting a way to escape into the wilderness and roam around the woods, or he would be planning a trip. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, 4 wheeling and traveling.

A heartfelt thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and EVS staff at 3CN for all of their support and kindness they have shown. A special thank you to Dr. James Mowatt for his kindness and compassion shown to Doug for the past 15 years.

Following cremation, visitation will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, (646-2424) on Wednesday, March 1 from 2 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception in the church hall. Remembrances in memory of Doug may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
