It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Arthur Gray at Bobby’s Hospice on January 18, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born in Saint John, NB on December 10, 1940 to the late James and Genevieve (Crowmwell) Gray and was the loving partner of 17 years to Ida Downey.
Donald worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator with local 946 for many, many years. He worked for various companies within his Local. He was very outspoken and known for his ability to tell jokes to anyone and everyone all day, without telling the same joke twice. Donnie loved playing the drums throughout his life. But he was happiest with a pool cue in his hand and freshly racked pool balls in front of him. He was a pool league team member at Shooters pool hall, west Saint John. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, but enjoyed watching all hockey games. He was a terrific father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family. He loved being around his friends and family and was the center of any gathering. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him.
Along with his partner Ida, he is survived by his 3 sons; John (Sheryl) Gray, Mike (Tara) Gray and Terry Gray, 2 daughters; Sherry (Burley) Ebbett and Christina Gray ( Randy), several grandchildren, and 3 sisters; Judy, Betty, and Sandra as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Jean and his brother Bob and his infant son BJ.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held from the former St. Joachim’s parish (603 Loch Lomond Road) on Tuesday, January 23, 2017 at 1pm. For those who wish, memorial donations in Donnie’s memory to Bobby’s Hospice, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
