Cathy Lorraine Barrett-Kay

Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. It is with profound sadness the family of Cathy Barrett-Kay announce that her home going took place on Monday evening November 12, 2007, after a two year battle with cancer. Cathy was the daughter of the late Kenneth (Butch) Barrett and Constance (Gilliland) Barrett of Margaret Street. Cathy grew up in East Saint John, graduating from Simonds High School and also graduating from Faith School of Theology in Charleston Maine. Cathy's life was always centered around her rich Christian Heritage and blessing many with her beautiful soprano voice. Her working career began at Simonds High School and concluded as an employee for the City of Saint John. No matter where she worked she had a way of endearing people to her as she shared her love and concern with all she knew.
Cathy married Dwayne Kay and she was the very proud mother of three beautiful children Amy (18), Aaron (17) and April (14). Cathy believed her children were her greatest accomplishment and lived and died wanting nothing but the best for her family. After learning of her cancer Cathy concentrated on living not on dying and enjoyed two trips to Florida and one to the West Coast. The Barrett Family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Betty Juliano, Dawn Richard, Ellen Sargent and Cindy Bourque who were a continuous source of strength to Cathy and her family. These ladies truly define what friendship is. Cathy is survived by her mother Constance Barrett her three children Amy, Aaron and April; three brothers Frederick (Peggy) Barrett of Hampton, Steven Barrett of Saint John and Rev. Gary (Margo) Barrett of Halifax. Cathy has five nephews, one niece, one great nephew and two great nieces.
