It is with great sadness the family announces the death of Brian Harris of Saint John, NB, who passed peacefully away at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family on October 5, 2017. Born in Oxford, England on March 2, 1940, he was the son of the late Frank and Lena (Evans) Harris.
Brian was an Insurance Broker who owned and operated Brian Harris Insurance Ltd., until his retirement in 2006. He had a passion for sports; he played and coached baseball and basketball and was the co-founder of East Saint John Minor Basketball. Brian was very active in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives as well as with the neighborhood kids; teaching many of them how to swim. In his younger years he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing but he also loved fixing cars and everyone knew him to always have a project on the go.
Brian is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Jean (Sproul), son Greg (Karrie) Harris, daughter Natalie (Tony) Wilkins, grandchildren; Mya, Josh and Heath Harris and Kale and Zander Wilkins, sisters Caroline (Tony) Smith and Noeline (Fraser) Smith as well as sister in law Gail MacLean-Harris and several nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, Brian was predeceased by a daughter in infancy Wendy; brother Warren Harris; half-brothers Paul and Ross Reynolds; sister-in-law Claire Harris; nephew Evan Fraser Smith and niece Alys Erickson.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Sunday October 8, 2017 from 2-6pm. A funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception. Private family interment at Fernhill Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may made in Brian’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, Bobby’s Hospice or the Evan Fraser Smith Memorial Fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
