Our deepest sympathy at the passing of Vern. My Dad, Bob Ring, always told us stories of the adventures he and Vernie had together as children in Saint John (like riding on a little wooden wagon down Watson Street, coming to a stop only by intentionally smashing into a telephone pole…repeatedly! Dad looked forward to speaking with Vernie every December when they celebrated their respective birthdays.By a stroke of serendipity, Bob's granddaughter (my daughter) , Erin, had a few playdates with Vernie's grandson, Matthew, when they were both very young. It was only later we realized the significance of this connection.
He will be missed.

One of the best, we met when I moved west at the age of twelve, probably in Queen Square West, the Mill Pond or . Me being a Brooklyn Dodgers and Toronto Maple Leaf fan, and Vern a Yankee and Canadiens fan, we had many friendly arguments.
We played ball together and against each other, and always remained friends.
Unfortunately I had not seen him for some time, the last being at Tims , of course we talked sports; I told him not to worry because when he died, God would convert him to the Dodgers & Leafs. My thoughts are with his family but now he is at peace.

So sad to hear of Verne passing. I worked with Vern for many years in the Parks Department,and enjoyed every minute of it.He kept me laughing all the time and I probably had more fun than anyone should at work.Lots of great memories because of him,and he will always be missed.
