Welcome to the memorial page for

Vernon Francis Oliver

December 2, 1936 ~ February 10, 2016 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Vernon Francis Oliver, loving husband of the late Evelyn Oliver, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 10, 2016 at the Loch Lomond Village. Born 1936 in Prince of Wales, NB he was the son of the late James (Jim) and Elizabeth (McCarthy) Oliver.  He was employed with the City of Saint John, mainly the Parks and Recreation Department, retiring in 1992. Ever the passionate sports fan and trivia buff, Vern enjoyed playing baseball with many teams including St. Peter’s Saints and the Saint John Alpines, making many lifelong friends. He loved his family, the New York Yankees, the Montreal Canadiens, country music, gardening and sharing a Tim Horton’s coffee with friends talking sports. Everyone who knew Vern will always remember his trademark sense of humour and generosity. A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in 2002 did not slow him down. He continued to be seen walking all over east Saint John and enjoying his back yard.

He is survived by his son Michael (Susan) of Fredericton; daughters Jo-Anne (Norm) Belyea of Saint John and Theresa (Scott) Conway of Rothesay; cherished grandchildren Colin, Janelle and Evan Belyea, Matthew and Craig Oliver, Jensen and Lauren Conway; brothers Ronald of Saint John and William (Rolande) of Kingston, ON; sisters Mary (Jim) Ryan and Lorna (Ron) Daigle of Saint John; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son Jimmy, a brother Lawrence, a sister Veronica and sister-in-law Marina.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Staff of Cedar/Willow House at the Loch Lomond Village who became a second family to us in the past five years.

Following cremation, visitations will be held at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) on Friday February 12, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, Saint John on Saturday February 13, 2016 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
