Sandra Treadwell Obituary

With heartfelt sadness, the family of Mary Sandra Treadwell announces her peaceful passing August 7, 2025, at the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre. Born in Saint John, NB on March 11, 1948, Sandra was the daughter of the late Marvin and Sibyl (McIntyre) Muir of Bloomfield.

Growing up as the eldest of the four Muir children in their home in Bloomfield NB, she always felt a responsibility to look after her brothers or at least try to direct them. She had a few years on her brothers, so she probably knew better, but boys being boys in a family of sharp wits, they often couldn’t help but tease her a little.

Sandra lived a life rooted in service, kindness and community spirit. She was an active member of many organizations, always giving her time generously. A lifelong lover of the outdoors, she was deeply involved with the Girl Guides of Canada for many years and enjoyed her time volunteering at Camp Tulakadik as both a summer camp counselor/Chief and as a board member for many years.

The daughter of a veteran, at age 18 she joined the Army Militia, a part time career for 6 years. She was also actively involved in the 8th Hussars (P.L.)  Association, helping to establish and open the 8th Hussars Regimental Museum in Sussex, NB. With her parents she was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 in Norton.

Her faith played a vital role in her life. As a faithful disciple of her Lord Jesus, she sought ways to serve Him within and without the church walls. A member of Bloomfield Baptist Church (formerly known as Central Norton United Baptist), she sang in the choir and generously gave her time and talents to the library, children’s and youth ministries and on various committees as the need arose. Together with her first husband Weldon Russell she served as a community chaplain at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre.

Sandra had a caring heart and was always ready to lend a hand. She treasured her family, especially the close connections she shared with her step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Professionally, she worked as both an elementary school teacher and a librarian – roles that suited her love of learning and storytelling. She was an enthusiastic reader and often passed along her favorite books to younger family members. Sandra was also a volunteer at the Kings County Museum, showing her dedication to local knowledge and history.

She will be deeply missed by her brothers, Stuart Muir, Donald Muir (Helene), and Douglas Muir (Bonny); her extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and many others whose lives she touched.

Sandra was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Weldon Russell, and her second husband Kenneth Treadwell.

Visitation will be held at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424), on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Sandra’s life will take place at Bloomfield Baptist Church, 435 NB-121, Bloomfield, NB E5N 4T3, on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Riverbank Cemetery in Norton.
