It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Sandra Marie (Sutherland) Ingersoll, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, March 7th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 21st, 1946, in Halifax, NS, she is the daughter of the late Joan (Potenza) Sutherland.
Sandra is survived by her son Darren Ingersoll (Jennifer) of Rothesay; daughter Jodi Ingersoll-Potten (Keith) of Brunei Darussalam; grandchildren Jacob and James; sister Judy White of Truro, NS; uncle Wayne Comeau (Theresa) of Fredericton; aunt Linda Wade of Kingston, NS; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Following her formative years in St. Stephen, Sandra attended teacher’s college in Fredericton. She taught at the Grand Manan Elementary School until her retirement in 2001. Sandra took great pride in rebuilding an old house, her first real home. She enjoyed spending time outdoors in the sunshine, gardening, and strolling along Stanley’s Beach. Sandra liked travelling, particularly to warmer climes, and she went on many wonderful adventures with her family and friends. She loved animals, walking, sewing, knitting, cooking, and keeping busy; she was rarely idle. Sandra was incredibly selfless, always concerned about everyone else, and put others’ needs before her own. She enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and supporting events at the North Head Anglican Church.
Foremost, Sandra was a beloved mother and grandmother. Her family always came first; she was loving, caring, loyal, supportive, and fiercely protective. She was known for her unwavering honesty, determination, and resilience. She was a much-loved niece, sister and aunt, and a trusted confidante to many, including long-time friends Shelley Cook, Judi Ingalls, and Sandra Field. Sandra was immensely loved, and her passing is a deep loss. Her family take comfort in knowing that she is at peace.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). As per Sandra’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time.
