It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, Ronald “Ron” Philip Watson on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 77. Born in Saint John on March 12, 1947, he was the son of the late Philip and Elva (Dunn) Watson.
Ron was predeceased by his wife Vickie (Guitard) and his brother-in-law Tom Coughlan.
He will be dearly missed by his partner Joanne (McQueen) Simpson, sons Scott Watson (Robin), Robin Watson (Jayme), daughter Rhonda Watson (Bill Saunders), his sister Joanne Coughlan, brother-in-law Norman Guitard (Edie), Sister-in-law Susan Dean (David), stepsons Steve McQueen (Erin) and Kevin McQueen (Krista), grandchildren Robert (Amanda), Stephanie (Cole), Tori, Taylor, Kayleigh, Kennedy, Kaiden, Harlow and Hayes, step grandchildren Joel, Austin, Nick, Alyssa, Ethan and Jaden. Great grandchildren Evelyn, Samson, Charlotte, Sawyer, Elliot, Clayton, step great grandchildren Emma, Atticus, Delilah.
Ron worked at Saint John Shipbuilding, AQTS prior to retiring. And in retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family at his camp in Cumberland Bay and hunting with his son Scott and helping him build houses. He also had a passion for buying and selling just about anything and was always looking to make a deal.
He loved to drive his truck, his tractor, his four-wheeler and mow the lawn. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbours and friends and this showed when he would be up at the crack of dawn in winter to plow out his neighbours and his son Robin. Ron was affectionately called “Grampy Red Hair” and “The Plow Fairy” by the grandchildren.
He was a Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Blue Jays fan and enjoyed playing the Jays Care Foundation’s 50/50 draw.
Ron was a proud member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 69.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (506-646-2424). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30th from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm with a Legion service at 7 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 1st at 11 am in the funeral home chapel.
