It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Kwok Wing Hum on September 13, 2025, peacefully at Tucker Hall with his loving family by his side. He was born in Guangdong, China, on October 23, 1943, to the late See Weng and Yok-Mei (Yee) Tam and was the loving husband of 51 years to his wife Kam Pik (Wong) Hum.
Peter was a well-known restauranteur in the city, working first as owner/operator and chef at Oriental Gardens restaurant before then opening up Good Fortune take-out, where he retired from. He was a fun man who liked to cook, watch sports, play mah jong, and bet on horses at the harness races. Peter had a tight group of friends that he would meet with at the Tim Hortons in the mall to keep in touch and know what was going on in each other’s lives. He never did anything small or halfway. He was a loving husband and father and a great friend who will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, Kam, he is survived by his son, Nelson; his daughters, Mei Nor and Mei-Kee; his 3 sisters, Cecilia Chong-King, Ngan-Jie Chan and Mandy Tam; as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Bill Hum.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424), where visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 12:00-3:00pm and 5:30 to 7:00pm. A private interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations in Peter’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
