Patricia "Pat" McPhee Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Lynn (Alexander) “Pat” McPhee announces her passing, which occurred at Bobby’s Hospice on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.  Born on September 14, 1943, in Saint John, NB, she is the daughter of the late Harvey and Ethel (Henderson) Alexander.

Pat’s biggest joy was people. She embraced everyone she met with genuine interest, kindness, and a heart full of love. A dedicated nurse, every patient received tender care.  A talented athlete, especially in badminton and basketball, she made friends with teammates and opponents alike. From book club to GI Gals and KV Girls luncheons; Loch Lomond Villa visits to line-ups at the grocery store and coffee at McDonald’s, Pat brought warmth and sparkle to every encounter; you truly felt seen in her presence.

Growing up on a farm in Red Head instilled a love of animals. Amazing Nannie to four-legged grandpups and grandcat, almost all rescues, she provided endless cuddles and sang soft lullabies. She always knew how to make people feel better, too. If you were sick, she was the one you wanted for a gentle kiss of encouragement on your forehead and a reassuring squeeze of the hand.

A fantastic mom, Pat was the loudest cheerer at her girls’ events. She baked fanciful cakes for birthdays: gigantic houses, bunnies, and teddy bears were devoured by countless children around the big kitchen table booth on River Road. Her bedtime stories made great readers out of her 3 girls and she sent the best letters, detailing everything she was grateful for about you, a visit, or gift.

Pat was timelessly graceful, charming, and strong, so her quirky injections of humor were a surprise to people who didn’t see it coming – which was hilarious. Laughter filled the room when she and her siblings and cousins were together. She felt blessed to have lived close to her twin sisters most of her life.

Pat will be missed by many, but her loss is most deeply felt by Larry, her sweetheart of a lifetime. They have a wonderful love story, east Saint Johnners who met in junior high. One United Church, one Catholic - not accepted back then, but they overcame and created a legacy of love that ripples far and wide. Thousands of kindnesses, so many lives richer and more blessed because these two have touched them. Pat crossed over with Larry holding her hand, after a harpist and guitarist played beautiful melodies.

Pat is survived by her loving and devoted husband Larry, 60 years married, 72 years together; daughters Dria (Tyson Flinn) of Fredericton, Leann of Pocologan, Regan of Hampton; sisters Ann Golding (Ken) and Diane Tonge (Ray); special brother-in-law Raymond LeBlanc; chosen grandchildren Victoria Justason, Matthew Rogers, and Audrey Rogers; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She cherished every one of you.

Along with her wonderful parents, Pat was predeceased by her darling brothers Gren and Court (Sandra).

Huge thanks to the extraordinary teams at Bobby’s Hospice, Palliative Care, Oncology, Dr. Christian Mackin and Dr. Jim Mowatt. Thank you for treating Pat, (ever the nurse!) as a colleague, as well as your patient.
