Parker Grant Cogswell passed from this earth on October 10, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 55. He is survived by his beloved husband and soul mate of 27 years, André Gallant.
With much love and admiration Parker is also survived by his parents C.E. (Butch) Cogswell (Maxine) and Judith Meinert-Thomas (Ralph) as well as his 3 older siblings: Catherine Cogswell, Chris Cogswell (Mary) and Terri Lynne Cogswell; and step-brother Alex Walsh.
Parker relished his role of uncle and role model to our next generation and is survived by his nieces and nephews: Christopher, Seth, Perry Clarence, Marcellus, Abigayle and Leila Kate. Parker is also survived by five grand- nieces and grand- nephews as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins across Canada.
God blessed Parker with many gifts. With great integrity and a quiet determination Parker was a proud warrior for equal rights and human dignity. He was a mentor for many people who strove, like him, just to be themselves.
Throughout his life Parker was an exceptionally gifted athlete (including basketball, volleyball, tennis, track and field, judo, baseball and badminton). Through the strength of his talents he developed and treasured many life long friendships.
Parker and André travelled the world together sharing their love of exploring cultures, the world’s beauty, and the generosity of the human spirit. Their house parties and Halloween dances were legendary (lava lamps, lazer lights, disco balls, smoke machine and Blondie music included) whether you received an invite or simply crashed. In the final leg of Parker’s journey he and André took much comfort in the social gatherings at “Parker’s Corner” on Mecklenburg street: a ray of light and sunshine during those dark days.
Parker was a well known and seasoned veteran and mentor in the food service industry in Saint John. We give many thanks to Thandi’s for giving Parker a safe place to land and a “second family” to lean on.
We are all so deeply grateful for the care Parker received in the final year of his life. Heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. Margot Burnell and her Oncology team at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
We are truly humbled by the compassion and care Parker, André and our family received from the health care providers from Extra Mural and Bobby’s Hospice. They are true angels walking amongst us. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation to honour Parker please consider a contribution to Bobby’s Hospice.
