It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Neal Frank Leard, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025. Born on March 14th, 1946, in Saint John, he is the son of the late Douglas and Irene (Golding) Leard.
After returning home to New Brunswick from British Columbia in the late 70s, Neal spent most of his career working at the Irving Oil Refinery. He worked there for 35 years before retiring in 2010. During that long career he also spent a few years teaching at NBCC, and thoroughly enjoyed his time there. His love of teaching and his involvement in unions throughout his life both reflected his desire to help people. Nothing made him happier than knowing he’d had a positive impact in the world.
He loved fishing, woodworking, working with his hands and going on road trips. In his later years he enjoyed having coffee with ‘the old guys’ and, as he put it, ‘telling each other lies’.
Neal was devoted to caring for his late wife Donna throughout their 49 years together and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Neal is survived by daughters Terry Duke (the late Bob) of Saint John and Michelle Leard (Gustavo Bautista) of Quispamsis; his son Neal Leard (Erin Brien) of Saint John; adored grandchildren Owen & Mia; as well as nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. Along with his parents, Neal was predeceased by his wife Donna and brothers Daniel and Leonard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) with a Memorial Service being held in the Fundy chapel on Saturday, August 9th at 2 p.m.
