It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Margaret Stephen (Dalton) announce her peaceful passing on Monday, May 2, 2022 following a short period of failing health at Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John NB. Born in Newcastle Miramichi on January 14, 1932, she was the only daughter of the late Harold Joseph Dalton and Ida Elizabeth (Grattan).
Margaret graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, Newcastle, NB and continued her education at St Josephs’ Hospital School of Nursing in Saint John graduating in 1953 and worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s for several years before becoming a full-time mother to her 5 children. When the children were older she returned to nursing part time at the Sisters of Charity Ruth Ross Residence in Saint John.
In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening and her weekly socials with her ‘Monday Morning Group’ in Champlain Heights.
She is survived by her devoted husband Robert, children; Kathleen Burnside, Bruce, David (Michele), Andrew (Audrey) and Elizabeth Belliveau (John). Also survived by her brother Eugene Dalton, grandchildren; Caroline, Emma, Isaak, Jacob, Matthew, Patrick and Samuel, sisters in-law Ramona Stack and Celanie Scoville and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, in particular, her lifelong best friend Ruth Heath.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her infant daughter Carla and brothers Harold, Richard and Carl, parent’s in-law Jacob and Mary (O’Toole) Stephen, son in law David Burnside, sisters in law Angie Dalton, Lillian Dalton, Sylvia Stephen, Sadie Stephen, Patricia Stephen and Terry Morrell and brothers in law Jacob Stephen, Terrance Stephen, Michael Stephen, William Stack, Earl Scoville and Marlyn Morrell.
Our family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of Rocmaura Nursing Home.
Margaret will be resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Friday, May 6th, 2022 between 4:00-8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday, May 7th at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery on Monday, May 9th at 10:00 AM.
Memorial donations towards the Rocmaura Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
