Marilyn Benjamin Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Marilyn Dawn (Cameron) Benjamin on February 14, 2022, at the Loch Lomond Village with her loving family by her side.  She was born in Saint John, NB on April 28, 1945, to the late Reginald and Doris (Sullivan) Cameron and was the loving wife of 50 years to her late husband, David Benjamin.

Marilyn graduated from the nursing program at the Saint John Vocational School and immediately began a career as an RNA at the Saint John General Hospital for many years before she left to start her family.  After 32 years of being a stay-at-home mom and a homemaker, she returned to healthcare and was reinstated as an LPN, working at Kennebec Manor.  She was a social butterfly and loved being around people and having company.  Everyone who came to her house, and this includes people soliciting or delivering items, was invited in for a cup of tea or a meal.   Marilyn was wonderful cook, who loved to host family dinners.  She made sure to celebrate every victory and milestone in her children and grandchildren’s lives.  Marilyn was the kind of person who was a wonderful mother but was born to be a grandmother.  Any time she could have her grandchildren come and stay with her, she moved heaven and earth to make that happen.  ‘Nanny Benjamin’ always showered them with love, and it made them all the more excited to introduce their babies to her as they started to come along.  Marilyn moved into the Loch Lomond Village, Willow House, two years ago, just before COVID hit the world, and when the lockdown happened, she took the staff and residents there into her heart and they became her family.  She loved everyone there, and greatly enjoyed playing BINGO with her gang.  Marilyn had the god given gift of being content and comfortable, able to fit in with everyone, and able to say what was on her mind anytime without it coming back to bite her.  She was strong and mighty, even though she was small in stature; raising five wonderful kids, helping everyone else before herself, fighting hard and surviving three different bouts of cancer.  She was loved and will be forever loved and always deeply remembered.

She is survived by her sons, David “Keith” (Kathy) and Kevin; daughters, Karen Leroy, Kimberly (Don) Thompson and Karla Whitney; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Norman and sister, Frances (Kevin) Miller; special cousin, Marjorie Boyne; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her grandchildren, Faith Jackson and Travis Leroy and just last year, by her son-in-law, Tom Whitney.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424).  In keeping with Marilyn’s wishes, no visitation will take place.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 11am from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens in the Spring.  Donations in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.  Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, Proof of Vaccination and a form of government issued ID is required for all those attending.  For those unable to attend, you are invited to watch the funeral service at the following:  https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1644966193167135
