Marguerite Jane McGrath, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away in the early hours of September 18, 2025, at the age of 68. Born in Saint John, NB, on April 26, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Milton Travis and Marie Marguerite Aline (nee. Clement) Smith.
Margie is survived by her cherished daughters Andrea Dolan and Sarah McGrath; beloved grandchildren Hailey Fox and Marley Isfeld; brother Father Marc Smith CSC; many grand fur babies; as well as several cousins. She was predeceased by her infant son David McGrath, daughter Rebecca McGrath, and half brother Michael O’Brien.
A pillar of true strength, Margie walked through life with the upmost grace and kindness. A woman who showed love and care to all, her smile and presence positively influenced all those around her. Margie was an exceptional role model to her daughters and her grandchildren who she treasured deeply.
Margie enjoyed a long and successful career with the Town of Quispamsis for nearly three decades looking after their accounts receivable. Her coworkers respected and acknowledged her talent and organization. Through her time at the town, she was a source of a smile and a joke for her coworkers and residents alike.
Margie was an avid lover of animals; often known to adopt pets that she knew would need some extra love and support. This love of animals extended to the pets of her family and friends, whom she was always thrilled to get to spend time with.
Margie was known to immerse herself in her creative passions. This included writing, playing guitar, crocheting, and knitting. She found true joy in knitting, discovering it to be a love language for her, as anyone who received a coveted "Margie blanket" can attest to. Margie was also an avid reader with an extensive collection, always willing to share her love of literature with great recommendations.
A one-of-a-kind woman, Margie will be missed every day. She was a brave, tenacious woman who had an incredible sense of humor and outlook through life's ups and downs. This strength and grace will continue to inspire her friends and family as we honour her moving forward.
