Margo Ann Legere Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Margo Ann Legere (Rodd) on 11 January 2025 at the age of 81.  Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, she left this world suddenly only months after the passing of her husband of sixty plus years, Jim.

Margo was born and grew up in Windsor, Ontario.  Her penchant for kindness, caring for others and adventure prompted her to join the Royal Canadian Air Force as a medic in May of 1960 and serve for four years as a Leading Aircraftwoman where she met and married the love of her life, Jim, a young RCAF Security Policeman.  Mom was the quintessential military spouse: strong, independent, resourceful and courageous.  She raised three children who, along with many pets, she transported across the country numerous times on hiking, canoeing and camping adventures, often riding solo due to Jim’s frequent absences on military duties.

Margo worked in healthcare as a medic and nurse, then later as an administrative professional at Employment Canada.  She loved learning and trying new things.  A voracious reader, she consumed books at an incredible rate, and she passed on her love of the written and spoken word to her children and grandchildren.  An adventurer who loved exploring the great outdoors, she was a Girl Scout leader and a founding member of the Eastern Shore Ground Search and Rescue team, where she took part in several national and international training events and conferences.  She was particularly proud of touring the Holy Land and Europe with her husband, when he was posted to the Middle East. This set the stage for their epic, months-long road trip across Canada and the United States in their RV: not only did they tour the Grand Canyon by helicopter, they were made honorary citizens of Jal, New Mexico.  “JAL” represented the initials of her husband and three children and was a symbol created and used by Margo to unify her family during their frequent military postings.  The family mantra was ALOTBSOL!

Margo is survived by her sons Jim Jr. (Cathy) and Jeff (Amanda), and her daughter Jennifer, brothers Tim (Sue) and Phillip, sister-in-law Carol, and brothers-in-law Dale (Shirley) and Dave.  She was proud “Nana” to Sabrina, Jimmy, Robert, Laura, Amy and Scott, and a proud great-Nana to Damian and Adriel.  She was like a sister to Thomas and Fraser Claringbold, Veronica Eldon and Valerie Soulliere.  She was also like a second mother to David Trigger and Valerie Mills (nee Trigger), and Monica Lynns – they all held a special place in her heart.  She is predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Jim, her mother, Elizabeth Claringbold, her father Phillip Rodd, her brother, Patrick Rodd, and sister-in-law, Violet Legere.

Visitation will take place 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. on Thursday, 13 February 2025 at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road Saint John, NB (506-646-2424).  A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, 14 February 2025 at St. Rose of Lima Church 541 Milford Road, Saint John, NB.   A reception will be held following the funeral service for friends and family at a yet-to-be-determined location.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Parkland Saint John for their kindness during her all-too-short stay.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Military Police Fund for Blind Children (www.mpfbc.ca), or the Salvation Army in memory of Margo’s kindness and giving nature.
