Malcolm "Mac" MacDougall Obituary

Malcolm “Mac” Grant MacDougall, 87, of Saint John, NB, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025. Mac was born on August 1, 1937, in Fredericton, NB, to Stuart and Christine (McBeath) MacDougall.

He lived a life filled with kindness, laughter, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He was a man of simple joys and strong convictions. He believed in the power of a good conversation, the loyalty of family and close friends, and the undeniable truth that the Leafs were always one player away from greatness. Whether he was socializing over a Moosehead or a glass of “vin rouge,” walking for miles just to clear his head, or cheering on his beloved (and sometimes infuriating) Maple Leafs and Blue Jays, Mac lived fully and without reservation.

Above all, Mac’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—never shy about boasting about his kids’ successes and carrying that same enthusiasm forward for all 13 of his grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. If you were lucky enough to be loved by Mac, you knew it.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Joyce Ann (Walsh); his children: Kelly Ethridge (Gil), Heather Voutour (Steve), Grant (Hope), and Stuart (Jill); cherished grandchildren: Deanna Momtchilov (Deyan), Tyler Ethridge (Amy), Jordan Ethridge (Lauren), Courtney Miller (Jeremiah), Madalyn Puddicombe (Chris), Emma Ethridge, Alex Voutour (Aleah), Nick Voutour, Stuart, Liam, and Callum MacDougall, and Kyra and Kamryn MacDougall; great-grandchildren: Simeon, Esther, Kaloyana, and Gavrail Momtchilov, Quill and Rune Ethridge, Eden and Nova Miller, Charlie Puddicombe, and Ava and Clark Voutour.

Mac was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jeannie, his brother Don, and his grandson Joshua.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hull, Dr. Morton from the SJRH Internal Medicine Dept., and the wonderful nursing staff in the ER; and Dr. Mackin and the amazing staff and volunteers in the SJRH Palliative Care unit, where dad spent his final days and received so much care and kindness. Thank you as well to the wonderful staff at Rocmaura whose compassion and dedication have been a part of our parents’ everyday lives for the past year.

Though he has left us, Mac’s spirit will live on in every story told, every joke shared, and every time we raise a glass in his honor.
