After a courageous battle with cancer Ken passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 23, 2025. Born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick, on December 8, 1959, Ken was a son of the late Roy and Muriel (Tayes) Ryder. He is survived by his brother, Frank (Sharon), sister, Elaine Conway, sisters-in-law, Judy Ryder and Kathy Ryder, many nieces and nephews and good friends. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, sister, Marilyn Kieran, brothers, Thomas, Donald, Glendon, and Roger, and many aunts and uncles.
For a number of years in his early career Ken was a well known and respected photographer and restorer of photographs in Saint John, but as technology rapidly overtook and replaced the need for his skills, he directed his sights toward the aviation field. Ken worked in aviation for many years in the Yukon, Baffin Islands and Ottawa, from where he retired. Following his retirement, he enjoyed a quiet life living beside the Ottawa River. It was his strong bond with family and longtime friends in New Brunswick that had him set his sights on moving back to the Maritimes. Ken purchased a property at Grand Lake from where he developed a busy hobby in laser etching, using and building on his earlier skills in photography to continue creating beauty.
