Kathryn Smith Obituary

Our hearts are broken to announce the passing of Kathryn “Kathy” Ann (Reicker) Smith, who peacefully went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday, April 1, 2022 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on June 12, 1961 in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of John and Ann (Mantle) Reicker.

Kathy was a courageous woman who stayed strong and positive during her valiant battle with cancer. She was a very sociable person who loved to laugh and spend time with family and friends, who will always remember her for her love and her smile, which she gave so freely.

In earlier years, Kathy attended Vocational School and later began her career at Moosehead, where she spent over 41 years in Procurement/Traffic, something that she was proud of.

Kathy was very talented, she played the flute, handbells and was a part of many choirs throughout her life. She enjoyed golfing with her ‘golf’ girls, playing softball, having coffee with her ‘coffee girls’ and shopping trips to Bangor.

There is no doubt that Kathy could bake the best pumpkin pie and chocolate cake with whip cream! She cherished the days she and her family had meals together and travelled to Prince Edward Island to enjoy Lobster. Views of the water and the sound of waves crashing would take Kathy’s breath away, she could sit for hours listening to the sounds.

She will be deeply missed by loving husband of over 40 years, Norman Smith; daughters Sherri (Chris) Harrity, Shannon (Matt Poole) Smith; brothers Ronald (Terrie) Reicker, Douglas (Cheryl Johnson) Reicker, Robert (Gail) Reicker; sister Karen (Malcolm) Cookson; brother-in-law Kirk Smith, granddaughter Lily, who was the apple of her eye, special grandson Gabriel who is currently on the way; special friends Leatha Howe and Trudy Embley along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Burnell, Dr. Naz, and all the staff, nurses and doctors in the Oncology/Radiation Department for their tremendous care over the years. They would also like to thank Dr. Love and all staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their care and compassion shown towards Kathy in her final days.
