It is with sadness and heartbreak that the family of Katherine Judith Barton announce her passing which occurred on Tuesday April 2nd, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Born in Saint John, July of 1952, she was the first child of the late Edward and Lois (Payne) Colwell.
Kathy was a loving wife, mother, nanny and sister; she enjoyed quilting and was a member of Marco Polo Quilting Guild and worked for the Hallmark Store in Brunswick Square for many years.
She was kindhearted, loved to talk, laugh, and joke with those she loved. The sound of her laughter was contagious and could be heard from the next room. She was especially close to her siblings; Kathy will be missed by all who knew and love her.
Kathy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years Doug Barton Sr. of Saint John; sons Dougie Barton Jr. (Tara Cullen) of Saint John and Scott Barton (Tammy Pyper) of Quispamsis; third son Mark Brown of Saint John; 4 very precious grandchildren Carter, Mia, Dawson, and Madelyn; brothers and sisters; John Colwell (Susan), Peter Colwell (Jacinthe), Peggy McAuley (Terry), Barb Reicker (Lucie Basque), Paul Colwell (Barb), Karen Colwell (Rob), Holly Hebert (David), Patty Childs (Corey), Mark Colwell (Laurie), Sonya LeBlanc (Luc), Michael Colwell (Charlene) and Matthew Colwell (Kelly); 19 nieces & nephews; 32 great nieces & nephews and 4 great-great nieces & nephews and many friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. At Kathy’s request no funeral will be held. A private family burial will be held at Barton Family Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Kathy’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
