It is with great sadness but appreciation for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Joseph Albert Charles Comeau on December 3, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dalhousie, NB, on October 25, 1943, to the late Joseph Arthur and Marie Léonie (Belanger) Comeau and was the loving husband of 56 years to his beloved wife Jeannine (Fontaine) Comeau.
Albert worked as a High-Pressure Welder with Irving Paper for 28 years before retiring. He was a very giving person and very active in the community, he was an executive of Rothesay Paper Sports, was in various executive positions with Local 601 C.P.U, and he was an advocate for those with disabilities, serving as the Chairman for 18 years on the K.V. Committee for Disabled Persons, the Premiers Council for Disabled Persons, and he invented the first “Surf Chair” which was designed for those in wheelchairs to be able to spend time with their family on the beach and in the water. He was a very selfless man, always looking for ways he could help other people, was witty, charming and loved to make people laugh by telling one of his stories. He loved watching the sunsets and stargazing ("Did you see the stars last night?"), animals, his gardens, birdwatching, going for drives in the country, listening to music, singing and dancing with his Wife, swimming, fishing, watching Hockey. He played hockey for 38 years and loved playing golf. Albert had lots of friends and made new ones wherever he went because he was so personable. The greatest achievement Albert made in his life was that of being the most amazing Husband, Father and Grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him especially "his girls".
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his daughters, Sharon and Natalie (Michael Hayes); his grandchildren, Olivia and Lauren; his sister, Gloria (Claude) Roy as well as many cousins and extended family members. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his 5 sisters and 1 brother.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). Services will be held in June of 2025 and the arrangement information will be updated closer to that time. For those who wish, memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
