John "Butch" MacNab Obituary

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of John Clinton “Butch” MacNab, which occurred at his home on Friday, January 26th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  Born on February 20th, 1946, in Windsor, ON, he is the son of the late John and Vera (Keely) MacNab.  Butch moved to Saint John after meeting and marrying the love of his life, Stella, where they built their family.  He worked for Atlantic Signs and Plastic Craft before retiring from working many years with the City of Saint John.  He was an avid wolf and elephant collector.  He was very artsy and enjoyed making mirrors.  Butch was a great dancer and he loved listening to blues and rock “n” roll music.  He was the most Canadian Canadian “EH”.  Butch had many friends, he would help anyone in need and was known to many as the neighborhood dad.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Butch is survived by his loving and devoted wife Stella (Byers) of 60 years: his children David Byers (Leigha), Robert MacNab (Karen), Ronnie MacNab, Deanna MacNab-Basque (Scott), Richard MacNab (Delores), Peter MacNab (Shania), Andrea MacNab and Philip MacNab (Harvey) all of Saint John; grandchildren Steven, Sara, Brittany, Charles, Joseph, Ryan, Jacy, Robert, John, James, Shana, Kylie, Lisa, Brianne, Brendan T., Courtney, Conor, Brendan N., Cameron, Gracie, Ella, Isabelle and Hadyn; as well as many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.  Along with his parents, Butch was predeceased by his big sisters Sandra Bradley and Beth (Hal) Flaro, he is in their arms now, and his dogs Blue & Linc.

A special thank you to the paramedics that took Dad to the hospital, the emergency department nurses and doctors and the staff of 5CS, as well as Kindred Home Care and Extra Mural.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424).  As per Butch’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.  A Celebration of Butch’s Life will take place at a later date.  Donations in his memory may be made to The Joshua Group or Bobby’s Hospice.
