James "Jim" MacIsaac Obituary

It is with broken hearts we announce the unexpected passing of James (Jim) MacIsaac on October 19th, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Jim was born on February 29th, 1948 in Sydney, Nova Scotia where he formerly resided on 86 Lorne Street.  He currently lived at 2 Ronald Court, Quispamsis, New Brunswick.

Jim was the only son of James P. and Magdalen (Jiggy) MacIsaac.  He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Charlotte (Magis).  Also survived by his two loving daughters, Karen MacIsaac, Rothesay, NB and Deanna (Tony) Gagnon, Darlings Island, NB, his only grandchild, Courtney, who was his pride and joy and his special dog, Ollie.  In-laws Anne & Jerry Lagoszniak (Brantford, Ont), Cathy & Joe O’Grady (Hamilton, Ont), Steve & Patsy Magis (Sydney, NS), Marie & Mike Barrington (Sydney, NS), Nick & Mary Magis (Sydney, NS), several nieces and nephews.  He was survived by his two natural brothers, Eddy & Zeita Hemmings and Dannie (Anna, deceased), all of Sydney, N.S.  He was predeceased by his parents and infant son.

Jim worked as a Carman with Canadian National Railroad in Sydney & Saint John for 34 years and retired in 2003 at age 53.  He loved to fish, hunt, bowl, play tarabish and crib.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his precious granddaughter, Courtney.  Teaching her many things such as riding her bike and learning how to drive.  He enjoyed his fatherly duties whenever his girls needed a helping hand.  He enjoyed the small pleasures of life.  He loved giving his son-in-law Tony, a hand whenever he needed.  He treasured him as if he was his own son.

Jim had a great sense of humor and always a prankster at heart, enjoying a good laugh.  He loved telling stories about his CN co-workers who he enjoyed working with.  He loved nothing more than to “stir the pot” with just about anything, especially politics.  He enjoyed a great childhood especially his summers spent in Northside East Bay, NS.  When his girls were young, he spent many happy summers camping at McLeod’s Campground in Dunvegan, Cape Breton.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation or formal service.  Cremation has taken place under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, Saint John, NB.  A private burial will take place at a later date in Sydney, NS.

Many thanks to Dr. Jason Hearn and Dr. Macken for their compassionate care of Jim.  Also, the few nurses of 4C North, you know who you are.

Memorial donations in Jim’s memory can be made to the SPCA or any Food Basket.
