James Kirkpatrick Obituary

It is with heavy hearts the family of James (Jim) Stanley Kirkpatrick announces his passing, which occurred on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB, he was a son of the late Hazen and Pearl (Chittick) Kirkpatrick. Jim was born on August 12, 1938, in Saint John, NB.

Jim had a 30-year career with the City of Saint John in the Recreation and Parks Department. He had the honour of being the first driver of a mechanical ice cleaner (Zamboni) and received a standing ovation at a championship hockey game at the LBR.

In Jim’s earlier years, he had a love for baseball and spent much of his time, both on the field and coaching behind the bench, for teams such as the Alpines and the Rockets to name a few. Jim had a passion for Harness Racing and was introduced to this sport at a very early age. He could always be found at the racetrack with his father, brother, uncles and cousins.

After retirement, Jim enjoyed travelling to Florida in the winter and spending his summers at his cottage at Terreo Lake. Jim was family man and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren with family vacations to Sebago Lake and PEI every August to watch the Gold Cup and Saucer.

In addition to his wife Noella of 57 years, Jim is survived and will be dearly missed by his children Jamie (Diane), Michele Lunney (Heath) and Brad (Jana), adoring grandchildren Brooke, Nick, Morgan, Grady and Kieran, along with many brothers and sisters in law, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Bill and infant sister Margaret.

Jim’s family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Jane Ashfield as well as the staff of 5CN at the SJRH for their excellent care and support.
