James Magee Obituary

James Alan Magee

It is with heavy hearts that the family of James A. Magee (aka Jamie/Jim) husband of Linda Magee, announces his passing at Bobby’s Hospice on April 14,2025.

Born on October 4, 1957, and a lifelong resident of Saint John, Jamie (as he was known to his close family) was lovingly married to Linda for 47 years and will be sadly missed by his son Chris, daughter Cara (Tim) Allaby and grandchildren Ollie, Camden and Carys. Predeceased by his father Ralph Magee, he is also survived by his mother Eileen (Kyffin) Magee and siblings Wanda (Robert) Walsh and Stephen (Angela) Magee along with several nieces, nephews and in-laws

Jamie (Jim to his co-workers and friends) had the highest marks in his graduating class at Simonds High School in 1977 graduating with high honours and went on to be a skilled tradesman and proud member of UA Local 213 as a plumber and pipefitter. During Jamie’s career of 44 years, he worked at several residential, commercial and industrial sites before his retirement.

He will always be remembered for his integrity, strength, courage, and dedication to his family and friends. He never complained, and behind the tough exterior was a kind and loving person who had unwavering support and dedication for those close to him. When you needed him, he showed up-whether you asked him to or not. Even his own illness and suffering never stopped him from helping others and making sure those in his family were taken care of.

Jamie loved fishing, four wheeling, and playing golf, and in his younger years he enjoyed many hunting trips with his father. He cherished his time with friends at the Bayshore Campground in St. Andrews where he could be seen cruising around in a golf cart with his good friend Marnie Fleming. Jamie also made a special bond with Doug Deering, Dave Sabean and Danny Adams. Always holding strong opinions, he loved spending time having great debates with his coffee buddies at Tim Horton’s.

He also loved sports and cheered on the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Red Sox. When Chris was younger, Jamie was his biggest supporter and never missed a practice or game. He then got involved in coaching minor baseball which he enjoyed immensely. Jamie had a special relationship with his daughter Cara and was proud to see her goal of becoming a pharmacist. He was thrilled to become a grandfather to Ollie, Camden, and Carys. They knew him as “Papa” and they brought him so much joy. He took an active role in supporting them and cheering on all their accomplishments. He also had a special bond with his sister-in-law Jennifer and her sons Wilson and Jack Duplessis. He loved spending time with them, attending all their sporting events, and being a mentor and advisor.

Heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. Gavin Langille, Dr. Samantha Gray and Dr. Holly Campbell who cared so well for him during his illness. The family is also very grateful for the wonderful staff at Bobby’s Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness throughout this difficult time.
