Gordon Hazen Obituary

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Gordon Curtis Hazen, husband of over 62 years to the late Gloria (Finlay), which occurred on August 6, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. Born on February 1, 1935, he was the son of the late Ford and Alice (Vallis) Hazen.

Gord graduated from Saint John Vocational School in 1955 and then became a commercial traveller within the Maritimes with very close ties with Benjamin Moore Paints. Gordon and Gloria purchased Paint Supplies (NB) Ltd. In 1970 and then Moncton Paint and Paper.

Upon retirement, Gord and Gloria travelled the world and enjoyed many years in their motor home. They spent their winters in Florida with their “Rolling Ridge” Family.

Gord and Gloria were supporters of several charities such as the Christian Children’s Fund, Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Saint John Boys and Girls Club.

He was a proud member of St. Mary’s and St. Bartholomew’s church serving as junior, senior and honorary warden, as well as serving on the diocese finance and other committees.

Gord was the President of the Canadian Professional Decorating Association, a member of SJXA, Partridge Investment Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce in Saint John and NB, The Board Trade, Canadian Products Association and the local C.T.A.

Besides his wife and parents, Gordon was predeceased by his sister; Bernice (late Claude) Camacho, son-in-law; Murray Skinner, sister-in-law; Betsy (Teed), parents-in-law; Joseph and Pauline (Harris) Finlay, brother-in-law; Peter (late Barb) and nephew; Christopher Finlay.

Gordon is survived by his two children; Peter (Lynn) and Heather Skinner, sister; Pearl, brothers; Rev. Harold Hazen, Donald (Linda) Hazen, many wonderful friends, especially the Kelson’s, as well several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give their sincere thanks to the staff of Palliative Care at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
