Gerald Daigle Obituary

The family of Gerald Joseph Daigle announces his peaceful passing which occurred on March 28th, 2024.

Born in St. Charles de Kent, NB, on October 29th, 1937, he was the son of the late Frederick Jean and Catherine Mary (Comeau) Daigle. Gerald hitchhiked to the city of Saint John at 18 years of age with only 5 dollars in his pocket. He enjoyed a 35-year career with Saint John Ship Building where he worked his way up to the position of superintendent of the Services Departments, retiring in 1995. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Father Eugene O’Leary Council #6595 for 46 years where he served as a past Grand Knight from 1992-1994 and was a 4th Degree member of Assembly #0616. This former tug-of-war champion never shied away from hard work or tough problems and always found time to lend a helping hand. Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing, Wednesday night cribbage with friends, and sharing his considerable knowledge as a jack-of-all-trades. His kindness and heartfelt nature will surely be missed.

Gerald is survived by his loving and devoted wife Cynthia (Stevens) of 26 years; his son John and step-sons, Andrew Wood (Megan) and Shane Wood (Lisa); brothers, Eric (Sandra), Jean-Marc (Martha), Maurice (Cathy); sisters, Yvette Albert (Claudius), Doris Poirier (Jacques); as well as his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his 1st wife Vivian, brothers, Leo, Ron, Louis-Emile, and Arthur, sisters, Alvina, Anita, Alice, Jeannette, and infant siblings, Germaine and Jean.

Thank you to the Loch Lomond Villa, Willow House staff for their exceptional care during his final months.
