After a 10 year battle with Alzheimers, it is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Florence Marie Savoie on October 16, 2023 at the Turnbull Nursing Home. Born in St. Charles on August 25, 1933, Florence was the daughter of the late Dan and Alma (Malley) Robichaud.
Florence will be missed by her son, Roger Savoie (Heather) and daughter Muriel Cosman (Grattan), 3 grandsons, Alex Savoie, Brandon Cosman (Phoebe) and Justin Cosman (Courtney), 5 sisters, Leona Wilcox, Therese Vautour, Irene Ouellette, Elsie Ouellette (Francis), Maria Verreault (Laurent) and 1 sister-in-law, Carol Robichaud as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is finally reunited with her predeceased husband, Alfred Savoie of 67 years. On his last days before Alfred passed, he said he would be waiting for Florence at the golden gate with a white rose. It was true love til the very end. She’s also predeceased by her 4 brothers, Alvin, Aurele, Augustin, John and 2 infant sisters, Simida and Irene.
After retiring from Towers Dept Store, Florence enjoyed her retired life with her husband, where she took up gardening and walking daily to ensure she got her 10,000 steps a day. Everyone knew Florence had a great love for dancing, they were members of the 30 Up Club on the West Side. They would be the first couple on the dance floor and the last ones to sit down. If there wasn’t a dance at 30 Up Club, they would find another place to go dancing on the weekends. Florence enjoyed the simplest things, going to her summer place in St. Charles where she would spend time with her sisters and brothers, visiting Alfred’s family in Pointe Sapin, spending time with her grandkids, shopping with her daughter or just sitting home enjoying a cup of tea and a sweet in the company of her cat, Molly.
Florence was at peace and very comfortable in her final days thanks to the tender and loving care of the staff at Turnbull. A special thank you also to her sister-in-law, Carol Robichaud, for being a wonderful support person to her daughter Muriel during the tough days.
