Ferdinand "Ferdie" Frederick Forgey

It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ferdinand “Ferdie” Frederick Forgey in the early morning hours on February 28th, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Born in Saint John, NB on March 6, 1938, he was the son of the late Ferdinand and Verna (MacArthur) Forgey.

Having retired from Moosehead Breweries in 2000, Ferdie was known for being a bit of a prankster, and he enjoyed nothing more than making people laugh.  Always the adventurer, his knowledge of and fondness for planes led him to obtain his pilot’s license early on in life.   A man of the outdoors, he loved spending time in nature and passed that love on to others during his time as a Boy Scout leader at Silver Falls United Church.  His lifelong passion for sports, especially basketball, culminated in his 2024 Saint John Sports Hall of Fame induction as a member of the 1961 YMCA Flyers.  His charismatic nature, sense of humour, and devotion to his family and friends will never be forgotten.   

Ferdie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna (Holden); his daughters Naomi (Tracy), Amanda (Greg) and Stacy (Len); grandchildren Rowan, Ocean, Stephen, Taylor and Olivia; one great-granddaughter Charlotte; his sisters Anna Nesbit (Bev) and Joan Rhyno (Lorin) and will be dearly missed by his extended family and friends.  As well as his father and mother, Ferdie was predeceased by his youngest sister Ruth.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424)Family and friends will be received on Thursday, March 6 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm.  A Celebration of Ferdie’s Life will be held in the Fundy chapel on Friday, March 7 at 11am.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ferdie’s name to the charity of the donors’ choice.
