It is with heavy hearts the family of Elmer Wallace Needle announces his passing which occurred on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Stanley, NB on June 5, 1942 he was the son of the late Robert and Laura (Foreman) Needle. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved grandmother Gram (Maggie Foreman); his infant brother Gerald and daughter-in-law Wendy Lee (Fillmore) Needle.

Elmer was a mechanic and his friends gave him the nickname “The Great One” because of his passion for fixing cars and his ability to fix anything he laid his hands on. He started his career after moving to Saint John with Bettle’s Sterling, then moved to lease a Texaco Service, at Haymarket Square, The Uptown Irving on Union Street, worked for Canadian Tire East for many years and retiring from the City of Saint John. He also loved spontaneous trips with friends and family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and telling stories.

Elmer was an avid antique car collector and his pride and joy was restoring his 1956 Crown Victoria with his son. He also owned many other antiques and loved drives in his 1960 T-Bird. He was also a member of the Valley Cruisers Car Club.

Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 53 ½ years, Mary, his son Scott (Christa); his daughter Heather Hubbard (Robin); cherished grandchildren Lindsay, Amber, Scott, Noah and Mackenzie; great granddaughter Charley; nephew Gerald and niece Rhonda (Paul) and his feline companion Oliver.

The family would like to thank all the staff on 4CN, Palliative Care and the Saint John Dialysis Unit for their excellent care given to Elmer and his family.

Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home (646-2424).
