It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Joseph Cyr on May 27, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Saint John, on June 11, 1943, to the late Alexis and Anna (Robichaud) Cyr and was the loving husband of 61 years to his wife, Marie (Bizeau) Cyr.
Doug worked at the Dry Dock where he retired from. He was a very musical man who loved to play guitar and played in a band at one point. He enjoyed jams in the basement with friends and family and he was so good at picking the guitar. Doug had a deep love for his family. He enjoyed all family gatherings, especially the family suppers and the yearly family reunion. Doug was a quiet man who was known for his big smile. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Marie, Doug is survived by his children, Bernadette, Marie (Gerard), Doug Jr. (Kim), Clovie (Lesley) and Kathy (Kevin); 10 grandchildren, Tasha (Chris), Stevie, Danny (Kate), Miranda (Rob), Corey, Rebecca (Shawn), Becky (Liam), Ryan, Kennedy and Brayden (Kate); 7 great grandchildren, Ashlee, Tyler, Wyatt, Connor, Maddy, Ella and Henry; siblings, Alex, Geralda, Loraine, Margaret, Raymond and Ann; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Jeannie, Germaine, Rita and Mary; as well as great grandson, Riley.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). In keeping with Doug’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment will be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations in memory of Doug to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
