It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Deborah Lynn (Benjamin) Coleman, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, August 2nd, 2024. Born on April 23rd, 1956, in Nova Scotia, she is the daughter of the late Thelma Lingard (Abbott) Benjamin.
Deborah worked as a Cook and Caterer. She was a renowned historian, author and genealogist. She served as an executive member of the New Brunswick Historical Society as well as the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada, serving as president of the NB branch. She was the special events coordinator and did much research, writing and presentations. She was also involved with organizing the Beaver Harbour Project where a replica of the old Quaker Meeting House was erected and dedicated in 2017. She had a great passion for providing for the underprivileged and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Deborah is survived by her 3 sisters; Joyce Benjamin Misner, Faye Benjamin Suffolk and Carolyn Coleman; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends, including special friends Irene Keleher and Florence and Jimmy Hawkins. Along with her mother, Deborah was predeceased by her husband Ronald, her sister Marlene Benjamin and her brother Wilfred Benjamin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). As per Deborah’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A burial will take place at Tennycape Cemetery in Walton, NS where she’ll be laid to rest with her husband. Donations in Deborah’s memory may be made to Beaver Harbour Community Venture (18 Quaker Ln. Beaver Harbour, NB E5H 1N3) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
