Born on December 18, 1949, in Saint John, NB she was a daughter of the late Leonard Michael and Sarah “Marie” Agnes (nee. Breen) Shea.
Dawn will be loving remembered by her step-daughters Janice Marie Degnan and Laurie Anne Clinton (Beth); brother Paul (Mary) Shea; sister Patricia (Ivan) Roy; sister-in-law Paula Shea; grandchildren Angela (Sean) Sitaram, Ashley (Patrick) McGuire, and Eric (Leslie) Degnan; 7 great-grandchildren: Nya, Kaden, Nicholas, Olin, Jackson, Austin, and Charlie Rose; special cousins, who were like sisters, Nancy Mott and Sandra Quinlin; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her spouse Donald Mercer; brothers Daniel and William (first wife Catherine “Casey”, and second wife Jean) Shea, and step son-in-law Russel Degnan.
Dawn was proud graduate of St. Vincent's High School and member of their alumni. In the 70’s Dawn made the decision to move to Toronto, Ontario where she lived for over 30 years. In Toronto she met the love of her life Donald and gained two wonderful daughters. Dawn worked for Lipton’s for over 25 years, eventually retiring from there. Once Dawn and Donald were both retired, they decided to move back to Saint John, NB where they bought a lovely home together. They joined the YMCA and went swimming almost every day, became seasons ticket holders for the Saint John Seadogs, and had groups of friends to play cards with; 45’s being their favourite. Dawn and Donald also loved going to the horse track to watch the races and travelling.
