With broken hearts, the family of Bernie Toner announces his passing, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, October 4th, 2019. Bernie was born in Saint John on April 7th, 1951; a son of Helen (Cave) and the late Rev. Bernard Toner Sr, and the husband of Evelyn (Taber) Toner. Bernie was a 30+ year employee of Charles Martin Inspectorate, which led him to travel most of Eastern Canada in his role as a Petroleum Inspector. He loved the outdoors, including hunting, being on the ATV, playing cards, and watching Nascar, but above all else he loved his family.
Along with his wife Evelyn, and his mother Helen, Bernie is survived by his children; Lisa (Derrick), Jody (Amy), Jennifer (Seth), Lisa and Jody’s mother, Anita, grandchildren Jordan MacLellan (Michelle) and Rylan MacLellan (Hannah), siblings Brenda Stanley (Joseph), Mark Toner (Susan), Benny Toner (Kim), Terry Toner (Beverly), Sherry Bawn (Earl), and Tracey Ventzek (Phillip), as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Bernie was pre-deceased by his sister Melvina Nickerson, and brother, Simon Toner.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424). Respecting his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
