It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our father James Alexander Garvin which occurred at Ridgewood Veterans Wing on Wednesday, March 15th, 2017. Born 1925, in Saint John, he was the last remaining of 5 children born to the late Frank and Dianna (McDonald) Garvin. Jim worked and retired after 42 years at the Saint John Ship Yard in 1989. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and jogging and could be found having a game of pool with his buddies after retiring.
Jim will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife Edna Kathleen (Silliphant) of 66 years; sons Larry (Wendy) of Saint John, Norman (Janet) of Quispamsis; daughter Linda McLaughlin (Joseph) of Quispamsis; grandchildren Shelley Michaud (Shane), Robbie (Kristy), Nick Brooks (Vanessa), Michelle Oliver (John), Kristen Gass (Mitchell); honorary grandchildren Scott & Stephen Dalling; great grandchildren Quinn, Zac, Layla, Charlie-Lynn, Nolan, Braedan, Kaelan, Amber, Lylah, Gage, Cadence; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Linda Garvin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17th from 12 to 2 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
