It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alden Wesley MacKnight, with his loving family by his side on November 7, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Newcastle, NB in 1927 to the late Joseph and Harriet (Howland) MacKnight. Alden was the loving husband of Marjorie (Buck) MacKnight for 67 years.
Alden was the Owner and Operator of MacKnight Motors in Saint John, as well as a top salesman for BF Goodrich, Zone Sales Manager for International Harvester Co. and Saint John Motors Parts Manager. He was an innovator when it came to recycling. Alden was a lifelong member of Glenview United Church and was active in many organizations including the Glenview Mens Club, Saint John Board of Trade, New Brunswick Liberal Party and Fundy Gardeners Club. In his earlier years he was active in the Saint John Air Cadets Squadron #161. He enjoyed history, gardening and was an avid reader. Alden will be remembered for his humour, generosity, strength and laugh. He enjoyed a long and joyful life.
Alden will be deeply missed by his wife Marjorie; daughters; Judith (Brian) Chapman, Nancy (Mark) Tunnicliffe, Heather LeBlanc and Sandra (Stephen) Biggs; sons; Scott (Janet) and Donald; sister Marilyn MacKnight; 12 grandchildren, Andrea, Courtney (Adam), Elaine, Matthew, Peter, Roger, Andrew, Phillip, Christopher (Laura), Stephanie (Ed), Jennifer (Jeff) and Adam (Jacqueline); 3 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Edith Northrup and an infant sister, Marion MacKnight.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Friday November 10th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Glenview United Church, 8 Upland Road on Saturday November 11th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception. Private family burial at Hardings Point Loyalist Cemetery, Kingston Penninsula. Memorial donations in Alden’s name can be made to Glenview United Church, Saint John East Food Bank or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
