We have been next door neighbours since 1973 and what lovely neighbours to have. Bill and Barb were always so kind and accommodating with the kids as they were growing up and equally as wonderful to our grandchildren. Bill's warm smile and kind words will be sorely missed. Hugs to you Barb, Cynthia, Michael and all your family. Joan and Jim

I am so sorry to hear this Barb. What a sweet and lovely man. Bill was my VP when I first started at Voc, and I cannot imagine how I would have made that first year without him. He didn't have to be strict; his bouncer-like build did that as soon as he entered the room, but his calm voice, patience and big heart always won the day. I remember that first year when he took a certain student out of my room for a little while. I thought he was punishing the student, but I realize in hindsight he was giving ME time to calm down! A reverse 'time-out' if you will. With his diplomatic skills he could have worked at the UN. He had a tremendous influence on me as an educator. He was compassionate, professional, always smiling...I loved my VOC years and he is a big part of why. He loved family. He talked about his family all the time. 'How is the boss?' when he saw me with one of my children. He loved kids and students. I am so glad I had the chance to work for this fine man. I am thinking of you. With love, Jane Tunney

To the Jackson Family

I would like to extend my sincere condolences on the passing of Mr. Jackson. I have very fond memories of my one year (1975) in his shop class at Saint John Vocational School. After all these years I find myself speaking highly of a man who truly influenced my life.
I recall the day that I showed him my inter-provincial certificate and I don't know who was prouder him or myself. I also remember a day that he was on one of my job sites and he asked one of the people on site where I was, and he made the comment that I was one of his boys. With the amount of people he taught, it was a wonder he could remember an individual he taught for only one year.
The pride and work ethic that he instilled in me has carried me throughout my career from carpenter to project superintendent. Mr. Jackson would be proud to know that my son also became a carpenter, with me passing down many of the skills that he had taught me.
I am proud to have known Mr. Jackson and would like the Jackson family to know that he touched the lives of many, even if they came into their lives for a such time.
Sincerely
Kevin Getson

Mr Jackson taught me @ Voc. in the 60`s and he was one of the best teachers I ever had.
I took drafting which is now my vocation but he taught us a course called building construction. Because of his teaching I have built 3 houses myself over the years and would attribute that to his making the lessons so interesting . I bumped into him a few years ago
and recognized him immediatly. We had a nice chat while waiting for our cars to be servised
at Aberdeen Motors. He hadn`t changed a bit. So sorry for your loss.
He was a great guy.

Dear Barbara: So sorry and sad to hear of Bill's passing, what a great man he was and I know how close you two were. I remember a conversation with you in St. Martins when you told me you wanted to travel and be with Bill. I thought how wonderful you still feel that way after so many years. A memory of you coming to Halifax for a visit with your mom and dad and I was so shocked he stayed home with the kids! So giving and caring. I know it worked both ways and you had a unique, special bond. I wish we could be there for the funeral but we are still in Florida and flying home March 3lst. Maybe I will see you in St. Martins this Summer...much love and prayers for you and your family. Love Laverne.

Barb, Cynthia, Michael and family,
I was deeply saddened by the news of Bill’s passing and my sincere condolences for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers as you celebrate his life and the wonderful memories you shared. I’ll remember him as the kindhearted, gentle neighbour next door. Bill always had kind words – whether I was stopping over because I forgot my house key, looking for the dog or cat or letting me in for my weekly piano lesson with Barb. I’m sure that wasn’t the most relaxing day of the week for the family, however Barb had tremendous patience for unmusical me and Bill always had a smile – perhaps because my lesson was over... In later years, Bill was always happy to see my family and I, as we stopped in with Lydia to say hello or trick or treat. I’ll remember Bill fondly and feel fortunate I had the pleasure of knowing him.

Dear Barb and family,
I was very sad to hear of Bills passing. He was such a lovely man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. One of the highlights of my summers was playing with your inner tube tires at your beach with Lorna and the kids from the neighbourhood. Bill could easily have chased us away but he never did. I will miss our chats each summer while on my way to Treadwell Beach with my family. God bless and thinking of you all.
