To: Susan (Steeves) Taylor and Pastor Brian Steeves
Dear Sue, Brian and families;
Just a note to express our sincere sympathy upon learning of the passing of your mother. Our thoughts and prayers return for those whom we have known over the years, and of course for those of you who are left to most remember and mourn their loss. However, how thankful we can be to know that, as followers of Christ, that those loved ones who trusted Christ and lived by faith have now gained Heaven. Praise the Lord! -Innis & Mary McCready

Super to hear from you, Innis and Mary (savouring your musical ministry over the years, most recently at Keirstead Mountain 3 years ago). Thanks loads for your thoughts and prayers, and kind, comforting words. Your heaven reference is "spot-on." Mom's enjoying the best Christmas of her life, in the visible presence of Jesus (and she's probably not even celebrating Christmas).

Charles and Joan,

Mom was a "Pearl of great price," and we miss her terribly. But it's so comforting to think of her present heavenly bliss: Those pearly gates, the streets of gold, the end of all tears, death, mourning and pain — and, especially, the visible presence of the Lord Jesus.

Thanks so much for your kind, thoughtful words. Your post is a great blessing.

Dear Walter, Brian, Sue & family,
Our Deepest Condolences on the loss of your amazing wife, mother & grand-mother. Aunt Pearl was a beautiful person-so loving & kind, like her mother, Susie, whom she also resembled. Her friends at Highfield Baptist always praised her (and Walter too) to Dad who was proud of his sister, Pearl, & brother-in-law, Walter. May you be comforted by your wonderful memories of her. Love, Judy & Terry

Good Wednesday morning, Judy and Terry (1 whole week since Mom's funeral — 5 days till Christmas — time seems a blur).

Thanks for your beautiful tribute to Mom and for your kind (and, if I may say so, accurate) reflections on the person she was and the life she lived. It's been a hard year for the family of Susie and Austin Steeves, with the loss of your Dad, our Mom, and, just a few weeks ago, cousin Ronnie. It was so nice to reconnect with you and all your family this summer, albeit on the sad occasion of Uncle Ivan's death. I'm sure we'll be keeping each other in our thoughts and prayers.

Cousin Brian

Dear Aunt Annie and Cousin Eleanor,

Thanks for your post!

Mom's interment is at Steeves Mountain in the spring. Don't know whether Dad will feel up to going. But, if he does, it would be nice to see Annie. He's been wanting to visit for a long time.

Hi Stephen and Crystal.

Your love and prayers are greatly appreciated -- especially in view of the sorrow you yourselves have known this year, with the death of Crystal's Dad and grandmother.

Thanks for the thoughtful (and spectacular) food package you left us earlier today (Saturday). I assure you it'll be put to very good use over the next 24 hours.

We were blessed, as well, by the cards you included. Please thank Myra when you're talking to her. God bless you all!

Dear Brian and Sue: Saddened to learn this evening, from Debbie, of your mom’s passing. We have many fond memories of being welcomed into her home in Forest Hills and at the lake as well. I (Margie) remember her hosting my wedding shower and her kindness to me when I was a new Christian. We are thankful that in Christ we do not mourn as those who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13).

Hi Margie and Don. Super to hear from you! (Long time no see.)

We miss Mom terribly, and, in fact, have been missing the woman she once was for a long time. But. as you indicate, knowing her present joyful circumstances takes so much of the sting out of our grief.

Thanks loads for writing this!

That WAS a long time ago: Sundays after church in the 90s (or was it the 80s?). Mom was always in charge of the order: A couple of mediums (the second only $5?), I seem to recall -- and a pitcher of pop.

Thanks for the kind thoughts and words, Leora. As you say, Mom's death leaves an enormous "hole" in our lives and in our family. But it was a great mercy, in view of the terrible disease she battled for so long. She's gone on to glory, and, by God's grace, the rest of us will be reunited with her according to His perfect timing.

David, thanks loads for your memories and words of comfort.

The Furrow and Steeves homes were both frequent sites of our friendship and activities, including many a game of simulated MLB baseball. (Go SF Giants!)

And our Moms were always accommodating of our idiosyncrasies and obsessions. (Or were they merely humouring us?)

We are both very sorry to hear about Brian's mom. Life is such a struggle sometimes but the reward for our faithfulness is well worth the battle. I truly hope she was granted His peace in her worldly journey and I know that peace is with her now.
Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice here and praises to our Heavenly Father for His glorious grace.
Shalom.

Pearl was always very nice to me. She had been best friends with my mother, who passed away in 1969. I suppose she was trying to help fill my void. I expect she was indirectly influential in helping me find a home at Forest Hills Baptist, because Brian and Susan always made sure to offer me transportation, though it was only a short walk for a 17 year old.

Thanks for the memories, Brian. Your mother's death so long ago was a great loss to Mom. They were, as you say, the closest of friends in every way.
