Freda Mildred (Mid) Carey

Freda Mildred (Mid) Carey wife of the late Henry Alexis (Bud) Carey of Salisbury Road, Moncton, N.B. passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 22, 2017 following a period of failing health. Born in Riverglade, N.B. in 1929, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Mary Ruth (Carter) Wheaton. Mid was raised on a small farm in Riverglade, N.B. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Salisbury Regional High School. Following graduation, she joined her father and brothers in working at the Jordan Sanatorium.

Mid was a devoted mother to her six children and beloved Grammy to all of her grandchildren. She had a large circle of friends and relatives who enjoyed her unique sense of humour in describing life’s challenges.

Mid is survived by her daughter Mary (Brian) Childs of Rothesay, N.B., son Norman (Robin) Carey of Guelph, Ont., daughter Patricia Carey and son Harold Carey, both of Moncton, N.B. Her seven grandchildren, Carey Childs(Robert Belyea), Leslie LeBlanc(Paul Powers), Francine Allain(Nelson Palmer), Abby Nice(Robert), Alexander Carey, Madeleine Carey, Rose Allain, along with 3 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister in laws Hazel Wheaton and Pauline Wheaton, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Howard in 1985 and daughter Susan in 2015, along with sister Betsy Robinson and brothers Fraser, Robert and Leslie Wheaton. Mid was also predeceased by special friend, Arnold Trites.

Mid had special relationships with all those close to her. There was always someone dropping by Aunt Middy’s for a cup of tea. Mid was also fortunate to have kind neighbours who checked in on her often. Mid also had a great group of “fishing buddies”.

At Mid’s request, there will be no visitation. A private service will take place at a later date.
