It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our husband and father George Allan Nixon, which occurred peacefully Monday, August 14, 2017 at his residence. He was surrounded by his family and faithful companion, his little dog Pebbles.
Born in Saint John, NB on August 11, 1926 he was the son of the late William and Annie (Allan) Nixon. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Eva Kincade.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara (Hickman); his daughters Jane Gallant (Reg Daigle) of Moncton, Katherine of Rothesay and Jennifer (Barry Foster) of Calgary; much adored grandchildren Erik, Claudia of Rothesay and Elijah of Calgary.

George was a veteran of WWII serving as a private in the Carleton and York Regiment part of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division.

Dad worked 28 years for Kimberly-Clark of Canada and prior to retirement, Irving Tissue for 3 years. A hard working man at work and home he always had a “project” to do. But when work was done, sports took over.

He was a natural born athlete. Excelling in any sport he participated in; rugby, floor hockey, boxing, and golf to name a few. He was very well known for his play and coaching in basketball, racquetball and handball. The latter hosting and organizing tournaments both provincially and nationally. A long-time member of the YMCA and former President of the Saint John “Y”s men club. Dad will be sorely missed.

In keeping with Georges wishes there will be no visitations or funeral service. A graveside service will take place in Fernhill Cemetery on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA would be appreciated by the family.
